Our Free Spring-Summer-Autumn Programs

Our association is offering all sorts of local and international activities for internationals and residents of Hungary. The food and accommodation are covered from EU funds, the travel costs are reimbursed till a top up limit (depends on the distance). The condition for travel reimbursement: sending us all tickets and boarding passes, signing the presence list, active participation during the whole activity, min. 1 share on a personal social media platform about the project. Buy tickets only after receiving a written confirmation of your participation, otherwise we cannot reimburse them. See: FAQ

Volunteer activities in Hortobágy #empoweredbynature

We are offering volunteer team activities with the support of the European Solidarity Corps for young people age 18-30. The group members are starting and finishing together, so it is not possible to participate in half a team, for a shorter or different periods. So consider when applying that you need to be present on the 1st and 2nd day of the activity (1st day can be a travel day) for the preparation trainings and at the end of the activity for the evaluation meeting (the last day is a travel day).

Dates (2026):

HR01: 28 February – 14 April --- NO MORE OPEN POSITIONS!!!

HR03: 1 June – 16 July --- NO MORE OPEN POSITIONS!!!

HR04: 17 July - 31 August --- IT IS OPEN FOR ONLY EU RESIDENTS (NON EU SPOTS HAVE BEEN FILLED)

HR05: 2 September – 17 October --- IT IS OPEN FOR ONLY EU RESIDENTS (NON EU SPOTS HAVE BEEN FILLED)

 

There is a high number of applicants for the volunteer activities in Hortobagy, many applicants who do not get to participate in one group will be offered another period. If you received an email answer indicating that you are on a waiting list, please wait, you will be contacted asap and if there are any open positions available, you will receive an offer for another period and you will see if that period if fine for you. Thank you for your understanding!

 

Regarding each volunteer team (HR01-HR05):

Locations: Hortobágyi Madárkórház – Madárpark & Pusztai Állatpark - Animal Park of the Pusta aka patting zoo, the territory of Hortobagy village and the Hortobagy National Park

Number of total days: 46 (number of free days: 18)

We provide accommodation (only shared rooms), insurance, for food and pocket money we pay 700 EUR/ person to cover your costs + international and local travel costs up to a limit (based on the distance band of the programme)

Please write a few sentences on why you would like to join the project and how did you hear about it. Please indicate which time period (HR01-HR05) you would like to join. After that we send you the info-pack for the related period and we plan a Zoom online meeting.

Please note that from June 2026 the composition of the groups can be as follows (following the guide of the Programme): max 20% in-country, max 25% non-EU and min 55% EU participants.

Training activities:

 

ACT it Out! International Training Course for youth workers.

Venue: Debrecen, Hungary

Dates: 20th - 29th September 2026 (travel days: 20th and 29th ) APPLICATIONS WILL OPEN ON 1ST JUNE!!!

Topic: Empowering youth workers to use theatre of the oppressed methods (image, forum and newspaper theatre) for social change

Total number of participants: 30 (4-5 participants/ country) + 2 facilitators

Working language: English

Target group: youth workers, volunteers of youth organisations, age: 18+ residents of the following countries: Bulgaria, Greece, Germany, Romania, Spain, Türkiye and Hungary.

Project Description:

Theatre of the Oppressed is a collective rehearsal for reality. The main idea of this methodology is to make people experience and understand how a change of an attitude, behaviour or thinking pattern can have a powerful significant effect on their life as well as lives of people around them.

Forum and Image Theatre methods are highly adaptable to the needs of different communities, with a large capacity to cover all kind of the social issues: human rights problems, power abuse and oppression in different ways, lack of activism, discrimination, exclusion, poverty, marginalization, xenophobia, etc. and through a creative approach provides a space for people to reflect, find solutions to these topics and transfer the solutions in their lives.

Theatre of the Oppressed even if is a very efficient methodology for handling social problems is not enough known and applied. This project is an answer to the needs of various youth organizations that need alternative methods for improving the situation of their target groups.

 

The main goal of the project is to increase the capacity of youth work sector to raise the participation and involvement of young people in social processes and change, to support the inclusion of marginalized groups in the local communities;

 

More specific Objectives of the project are:

  • To introduce innovative methodologies in youth work field;
  • To raise the capacity of partner organizations to operate at European level and in international mobility projects;
  • To stimulate the exchange of best practices in youth work field;
  • To increase the quality of the youth organization projects;
  • To develop and improve skills in non-formal education in general, and in particular in Theatre of the Oppressed methods for youth workers from Europe;
  • To develop a network of Forum Theatre multipliers in various regions of Europe;
  • to improve project management, communication, team leading and motivations skills for youth workers.
  • To increase the level of active participation of the local communities and different target groups of each partner

 

The participants will get to know the methods of the Theatre of the Oppressed (mostly Image Theatre, Forum Theatre and Newspaper Theatre) and will learn how to use them in their respective communities to initiate social change and help the inclusion of vulnerable groups of youngsters.

Financing: The food and accommodation will be covered by the Hungarian organisers with the co-financing of the Erasmus+ Programme. There will be 3 meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and 2 coffee breaks provided each working day. The accommodation is offering rooms with 2 and 3 beds. The participants will be sharing rooms with participants of the same gender. All rooms have private bathrooms. International travel cost will be reimbursed based on the distance calculator and distance band form the starting point of the travel to Debrecen and back to home. 

Travel costs will be reimbursed following the submission of original travel documents. It is possible to arrive to Hungary a couple of days earlier or leave Hungary a couple of days after the project dates, these travel tickets can still be reimbursed, however the accommodation and meals are not covered for these extra days.
